I was not surprised when I went back to my primary that he was a little frustrated the Neurologist didn’t give him the direction he needed to know what to do next. But because he is an awesome family doctor he made a game plan I am so grateful for.
With my blood work showing my liver enzymes elevated, he referred me to get a scan done. He also rechecked my B6 vitamin…yes more blood work. He also had me wear a heart monitor for palpitations that he was not sure were not from fibromyalgia because I hadn’t been diagnosed yet. He also asked me if my therapist had recommended any antidepressants. I told him yes, but I am so anti-medication that I wanted to see if I could continue without them. This is where a good doctor comes in and I pray everyone can find one half as good as mine. My primary doctor gave me the information and the pros and cons of antidepressants. He would always say, I strongly advise you but it ultimately is up to you. But you have to know that with Gabapentin the Neurologist put you on it can make depression, anxiety, and stress worse. That’s all I needed to hear. I was already fighting winter blues with my Vitamin D at 15 (normal is 50) that’s one strike against me. Dealing with a child with encopresis from child abuse and trying to protect him. Strike two. The crippling pain my body was experiencing and the intense headaches. Strike three and four. I could go on up to probably eight strikes. I agreed to try them. My primary doctor gave me the pros and cons of the antidepressants he suggested and as soon as he said Prozac gives more energy and patients have said they lose weight….yep that’s the one I decided on, especially since one of Gabapentin side affects is weight gain. Hello, I don’t need help in that department. I gain weight looking at a glass of water! Lol
I made appointments for the scan of my liver at radiology, the heart monitor place, and why not throw in another appointment to see my gynecologist lol and my primary made sure I went and had my second MRI neurologist wanted me to get. Check, check, check, and check. So much for me rarely going to see a doctor.
TIP: I can not stress enough how a great primary doctor is key in putting all the puzzle pieces together. I do research on everything I purchase and when it comes to our health (that no amount of money can buy) we owe it to ourselves to have the best team fighting for us! FIND REPUTABLE PRIMARY DOCTOR!
